Overview
A comprehensive volume of more than one thousand easy-to-prepare slow-cooker recipes features options for everything from breakfasts to desserts and includes the author's insights on how different cooker sizes work best with various ingredients. Original.

Publishers Description
Slow-cookers are a great complement to today's busy lifestyles. Once the ingredients are added, the virtually meal cooks itself. This collection brings together a huge number and variety of recipes that show off the value, ease, and versatility — not to mention delicious taste — of this cooking method. Seasoned cookbook author Sue Spitler covers every aspect of using slow-cookers. The book explains the various kinds and sizes of cookers, from 1-1/2 quarts to seven quarts, and shows what recipes work best in each type. From there, readers learn to prepare all the necessary ingredients beforehand so that they can refrigerate the food and the crock for anywhere from hours to overnight and then plug the appliance in when it's time to cook. Included are more than a thousand scrumptious recipes — all thoroughly tested — for appetizers, entrees, side dishes, breads, sandwiches, and desserts.

Fantastic Slow Cooker Recipe Cookbook!!  Oct 11, 2009
I think that this is a fantastic cookbook! I have loved every recipe that I have tried! None of them are overly complicated. It does use a lot of canned goods but this is probably for convenience (fresh is always an option and can substituted if you know how and have the time). The inclusion of the nutritional information is great because I can use the weight watchers recipe builder to convert these recipes to a point value system. Other small recipe substitutions (like olive oil for the butter/margarine or whole wheat flour for the white flour, whole wheat pasta, etc.) can make for a healthier, more low fat dish. This is a good price on this cookbook becausee I paid $19.95 from a different source. This one is definitely a keeper!

Yummy-yummy-yum-yum!  Aug 1, 2009
I don't do the cooking in our household and I don't count carbs or things like that - which explains why most the recipes in this scrumptious book won't be made in my house.

Sigh.

My favorite chapter was the 51 pages of meat stews. All of them sound delicious. There is little concession here to eating super-healthy. And gourmands who use only fresh grown ingredients will definitely not like this book. But for those of us who enjoy filling, tasty meals - this book is a slice of Heaven.

All of the recipes are designed with time and convenience in mind. There are no sophisticated techniques here. Somoe of the recipes are a tiny bit adventurous, like beef, cabbage, potato and rice stew.

There are seven (!) chapters of soups, chowders and chilis. Some them sound like they would be quite tasty.

In all, 16 chapters cover meat, poultry, fish and seafood and vegetarian stews, side dishes and other entrees, appetizers, breads and sandwiches and desserts.

For anyone with a slow-cooker or, as it more commonly known, a crock-pot, this is a recipe paradise. Our crock-pot is used more days than not. Now I guess I just have to do some begging to get one or two of those wonderful beef stews on the menu!

The book has one small omission: there isn't a single photo of any of these mouth watering recipes.

Easy, Comprehensive Collection of Recipes  Jul 17, 2009
I have several slow cooker books, as I love using my crockpot at least twice a week for the convenience. I was very pleased with this new book.
It's organized very nicely, which makes it easy to browse. There's something for just about everyone in this book.

somewhat disappointed  May 3, 2009
Lots of recipes, but not as many healty veggie ones as I expected, and I thought most were a little too complicated. I am not a great cook (to put it nicely) so this book might be perfect for someone more talented than me or who has more time.

Slow cooker recipe book review  Apr 22, 2009
I needed more info. about times to cook-low and high and amount of liquid to add. These recipes have not answered all my questions.
