| i hated thid book big waste..t wish she would keep her relegion to herself | | | | A wake up call! May 27, 2010 |
| So I tried this, and it opened my eyes to many of the ways I spend money. I only was able to make it about a week, then I needed to purchase some medicine and supplies for my horses, so I got a little off track.. I definitely have more wants then needs, and I really want to be debt free. Connecting more with God and not using my credit cards is something I need to do more with my life, and this book helped me refocus my debt and life goals. I really enjoyed the testimonials at the end. This book opened my eyes more about my debt, and so I gave it five stars and I really got some great information from it! | | | | Opened my eyes! | This book has changed the way that I think of money. I really and truly thought that I didn't spend a lot of money. So, I started the 21 day fast and saw that not only did I spend money but I did so without thinking. Now each time I pull out my debit card and certainly my credit card I think, what would Michelle say? Is this a need or a want? I had not realized that I spend $90.00 a month, yes, thats $1080.00 per year on two drinks 4 days a week from Sonic. What could I do with an extra $1080 a year? Well I will tell you...just from using Michelles book, I paid off my truck in 2 months, yes I only owed $5100 but still I would have let that drag out till the last day had it not been for this book. I promise it is worth the money, if for nothing else than to show you your spending habits. Also, I have read a ton of financial books, this one is the easiest to read, and the easiest to follow. Good luck. | | | | Skimmed Heavily Apr 23, 2010 |
I actually purchased this book for a young lady, who's just starting out, and needs some financial guidance; but found myself drawn to it's key principles as well. I like that she covered basic things such as budgeting, and "money fornication". On the downside, I can see where it does speak more to the shop-o-holic type; versus someone who's stable, but needs some tweaking and long-term planning (for that women I would suggest Suze Orman's Women & Money). So, for general financial advise I probably would have given it 3 stars; but being a Christian, I really appreciated the Biblical principles that she attached to each subject, and for that I would assign it a five; because so much of what we do as Christians manifest in how we chose to spend our money, so learning to live within our means, giving (offering), and preparing for the future should reflect that. I must say in one of the beginning chapters, she discussed giving/sharing to those in need, and in a way I agreed with her, but in a way I did not. There are those who do not wish to better themselves, and get a grasp of their finances. And they make reckless, and poor financial decisions, then always expect you to rescue them out of there own carelessness time and time again, instead of cutting the credit card, getting a roommate, downsizing, etc. I just don't agree with 'enabling' those types of folks. And giving, even if that means putting yourself in the red, i.e. to enablers. Anyway, all in a good read. | | | | Christian financial advice Apr 22, 2010 |
| This book offers solid financial advice from a Christian perspective. Most of the advice is obvious and is the sort of thing anyone who reads financial books or magazines like Kiplingers would be well familiar with. The inclusion of a financial fast is what sets this book apart. The idea of seperating onself from one's buying habits in order to gain perspective and break some bonds of bad spending is inspired. An easy book to recommend to a fellow believer looking for help. | | | Write your own review about Power To Prosper
