Overview
Barnes shares his secrets for creating show-stopping looks that you can use everyday.

Publishers Description

About Face is a compendium of everything make-up artist Scott Barnes has learned during his career working with A-list celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jennifer Aniston. About Face is packed with techniques for every area of makeup application. Part One focuses on dramatic makeovers of real women with a twist: each woman comes in looking the best she thinks she can look. The author then deconstructs and debunks their look taking them from attractive to amazing. Step-by-step photos outline makeup techniques and products while Scott provides commentary on how he pinpointed the woman’s strongest asset and built a look around it. Part Two highlights beauty rituals, must-have makeup items, and inner and outer preparations that a woman must embrace in order to look beautiful and radiate charisma. Part Three focuses on the celebrities Scott Barnes has worked with.

big scott fan  Jan 11, 2010
I love Scott Barnes' work!!!! BUT this book is a huge disappointment. Not a single makeover was wearable in everyday life. Great in theory but not realistic. Not the book for real women wanting to learn about makeup!!!!!

not worth it  Jan 11, 2010
Most of the women "transformed" by the author's makeup skills are models. The makeup used on them is very heavy and dramatic, I suppose to make a point about how glamorous you can look with full makeup: from base to false eyelashes.
Much more effective would have been "ordinary" women who never wear makeup and who do not work in the beauty industry.

What also bothers me is that the author has a quote on page 225 at the end of the book, which he attributes to Nelson Mandela- WRONG.

The quote is from Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of "A Course in Miracles"

The publisher and author need to be notified of this somehow.

disappointing  Jan 9, 2010
Mediocre visuals. Not as easy or open with information for the reader to learn from.

I wish it focused on the makeup  Jan 7, 2010
The title of the book is truly what the book is about, transformation. Most of the women were practically unrecognizable after all the makeup and airbrushing of the photo. My reactions are mixed to the book, it's nice and I learned some really great tips on applying makeup. The section on skin care is great as well too. Scott Barnes is an amazing makeup artist and has true talent, which is why I was excited to get this book.

And this is where my enjoyment of the book ended. Its a big book, much bigger than other makeup books out there currently. I felt most of it was simply filler. Each transformation was accompanied by an interview between Scott and the model, this I feel could have been totally left out. It wasn't necessary to know this fashion/tv model has dreams of being a political figure or whatever it is they want to do. I simply do not care, I did not purchase the book to read about a model's life ambition. Some of the models looked even older with their makeup on, like Katherine, but then once the photo was airbrushed she looked much younger. When you're looking at the untouched photo, it appears he has a very heavy hand with powder, or the camera picked up on every single pore, wrinkle, and grain on their face. Makeup shouldn't look caked on. For me, I was able to pick up eye makeup tips on one model, Danielle, because of her hooded eye shape. There were some other women who had a slight hood to their eye but I noticed the makeup was the same, not as intricate like the other eyeshapes were. I didn't see the need for any celebrity interviews. And lastly, the actual photos of the transformation were so small compared to the photos of everything else.

I, unfortunately, feel this book wasn't worth the wait. It could have been so much better considering the amount of skill Scott has, his skill definitely shows but I think there was just too much unnecessary things thrown into the book.

WONDERFUL BOOK!  Jan 2, 2010
I just finished reading this book and i thought it was really good. I love the way Scott Barnes does makeup application. He taught me alot about how to apply makeup professionally. I was really impressed by him. He can make any woman in the world look like a supermodel! The transformations on the women he did in his book were amazing! I hope he comes out with another book!
