Item Description...
Product Description For the expectant and new mom, freshly updated and designed, this acclaimed all-in-one support guide focuses on all aspects of the postpartum experience. The nine chapters in this comprehensive guide include resources, networks, information, stories, and advice to nurture, validate, and empower the new mother, whether she is having her first baby or her third. Among the subjects covered are: what to expect when you go home; what is this period called "postpartum" and how long does it last; where to find breastfeeding help; how to ask for help; homecare options; what are realistic going-back-to-work options; how to relieve the isolation of at-home mothers; what to say (and not to say) to family members. Drawn from three years of research and the author's own experience, each chapter is filled with the practical suggestions and hands-on solutions provided by doctors, nurses, midwives, other caregivers, policymakers, and over 100 new mothers. Also included are many real-life stories told by women in their own voices; checklists; a prenatal and postpartum questionnaire to help assess and plan needs; reading lists; resource listings; and a separate chapter for second-, third-, or more-time moms.

 | intensive read Oct 13, 2008 |
| This book is an intensive read for the post partum time. I have found it helpful, though the resources are not as helpful as I hoped;not a lot for the west coast. It's very well written. | | | | Excellent overview of postpartum needs May 6, 2007 |
| As a new mom and as a therapist specializing in postpartum issues, I highly recommend this book. It's an excellent resource for families expecting a baby, covering important topics such as postpartum depression and anxiety, building a support network, and how to plan for the postpartum period in order to make a smooth transition into parenthood. | | | | An excellent resource and comfort Apr 22, 2003 |
| I found this book to be an excellent comfort, as well as a great practical resource. The book sensitively and honestly addresses the wide range of emotions I experienced after my child's birth--many of these emotions I didn't expect, and some scared me. I recommend this book to any expectant parent--I found it reassuring to turn to for support. | | | | Outstanding info and support for new mothers! Oct 3, 2000 |
| This book really helped me after the birth of my first child. So much info and support for all the things that nobody prepares you for. All the birth prep focuses on the actual birth, nothing for the feelings and challenges afterwards as a new Mom. This book does that. Especially helpful to me was the section on PPD. Read it, before you need it! | | | Write your own review about Mothering the New Mother: Women's Feelings & Needs After Childbirth: A Support and Resource Guide
