| At long last, its finally summer. The Corn Flakes are at the beach, Virginia Beach, that is, and they're having a blast. All of them except Willoughby, who has been on vacation with her own family. But when Kitty Munford, one of the Flakes, falls over on the beach and claims she cannot get up, the problems start. At first the girls think it's the flu, but it turns out its much worse: Kitty has cancer, and may die. At first the Corn Flakes are devastated, and it doesn't help any when Maggie's mom takes Maggie on vacation to visit family, and Fiona's parents force her to go to camp. Darbie isn't allowed to talk about it, and finally, poor Sophie doesn't know how to take it all when her sister Lacie tells her that Kitty isn't a Christian and that God may have actually allowed this to happen to her-and much worse-may not listen to Sophie and her friends pleas to cure her. Suddenly, Sophie finds herself asking questions about being saved and about death, and her parents are worried. But Kitty wants to know more about Jesus at a time when Sophie isn't even sure where she stands, let alone how to help Kitty. But ultimately, Sophie learns about love, and promises God that she will do whatever Kitty needs, so long as it is in line with the Bible. But when Kitty's list includes things that Sophie finds may jeopardize her friendship with Fiona, and even worse, require a huge sacrifice on Sophie's part, Sophie learns what loving others is really about. The book draws from the book of Luke in the new testament, specifically the story where Jesus asks Simon Peter to fish further out in the lake and, after a successful catch, tells him to follow him. | | | Write your own review about Sophies Stormy Summer (Sophie V6)
