Item Description...

Beatified on May 22, 1999, Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (1887-1968) was a Capuchin monk and mystic whose life was marked with miracles and wonders, but who said that his only desire was "to be a poor friar who prays." Observes the author: "When people write about Padre Pio, they tend to dwell on the penitential aspect of his life, thereby giving a somewhat dark and medieval tinge to his personality.... Padre Pio was and is a man of hope. Throughout his life, in the midst of the most difficult trials, he always looked to the future with a spirit of optimism, faith, and love." In this intimate biography, you will see the results of this humble Capuchin's prayers and discover for yourself the Source of his great hope. A Servant Book.

A Great Mystic  Dec 20, 2008
This work reveals many facts not before known of Padre Pio. Basically not only his devotion to God, but also how he suffered at the hands of his own fellow monks. Suprisingly, not all the monks were pleased to have him in their presence. Allegri presents us with intimate view of this holy man. Even Pope John Paul II sought his intervention.

Misunderstood Mystic - Holy Man of God  Nov 30, 2008
I was quite engrossed in reading this book about Francesco Forgione - Padre Pio's life. Francesco was a simple man who came from a poor farming village in Italy and was educated by clergy. Growing up he was a loner who spent many hours in prayer and was offended when someone used profanity. Francesco's studies and piety eventually lead him to become a Capuchin Friar and priest.

I was drawn to the mystical experiences he had which started during his childhood. The Virgin Mary would frequently visit and speak with him. He was tormented by the evil one who would visit and beat him almost nightly. Padre Pio had many spiritual gifts; reading people's hearts, bi-location, clairvoyance, healing power and the ultimate was his receiving the stigmata.

The book is written by a journalist who was a friend of Padre Pio and he gives insights into his simple and obedient life. He had a vision of building a hospital for the poor which he saw come to fruition during his life.

Padre Pio was a holy man who, like Jesus, intimidated the religious hierarchy who caused problems for him and restricted his access to the public and his ability to celebrate Mass. Padre Pio knew that God's will be done and even under severe accusations and restrictions he was obedient and optimistic about the future, a man of hope.

A LIFE-CHANGING BOOK!  Oct 1, 2005
Reading this book has been one of the most beautiful gifts that a human being
can receive. I was delighted reading it from the beginning to the end. The whole time I read it, I was overcome with thoughts of Padre Pio throughout my day. The book was beautifully written. It made me cry and it made me laugh. Padre Pio is the most loving man, priest, a true holy and faithful follower of Jesus Christ. What a life Padre Pio lead. It is amazing the relationship he had with Jesus and Mary, even with his Angels. Reading this book has been a healing, a transformation, and kind of a retreat for me, allowing me to see life with true faith, hope and love. Somehow it humbles you and brings you a feeling of peace; I even felt Padre Pio's presence while I read this book. Renzo Allegri deserves the Nobel prize for having taking the time to accomplished all the documents and information to write this wonderful book. Indeed he did a great favor to those who want to learn from Padre Pio. You will not be sorry to read this book. This book changed my life.
