| Can't recommend this book without reservation. The book is sort of like a lecture from a brother-in-law home from Bible school. Though there are several helpful insights, these are more than offset by the author's decontextualized and uninformed use of Scripture. He uses a whole range of verses from all over the Bible to support his many bold, sometimes radical, assertions, many of which would not be shared by many Christian counselors. Aside from the Bible and his "years of experience", he cites only two other authorities to substantiate his opinions: Richard Baxter's Christian Directory (divorce occupies about a hundreth of the book) and Jay Adams's (tiny) book on Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage in the Bible. There must be thousands of books and scholarly articles written from a Christian perspective on marriage and divorce, but you won't be directed to them from here. The author says he's a counselor, but if this book is any indication, his counseling involves more lecturing than listening. | | | | In your face - but in a good way Jan 14, 2009 |
| I ordered this for 2 of my friends who are contemplating divorce. I reviewed it myself before sending it to them, and it was exactly the book I was looking for. The title says it all - I want my friends to really evaluate their actions before anything permanent is done. Lou does not sugarcoat divorce, or coddle the reader in any way. He backs up everything he says with good scripture. The book is an easy read, my only complaint is that it's not longer. | | | Write your own review about Divorce (Resources For Biblical Living)
