 | Great page turning book filled with suspense Dec 2, 2009 |
Firstly I want to mention this book is a page turner and very difficult to put down. Now with that being said, I loved the suspense of this book. David was acquitted of murder of his girlfriend Emily the year before. His parents have moved him to his aunt and uncle's house to live with them to finish out his senior year in high school. He's not really welcomed when he arrives and his little cousin, Lilly is very upset he's invading. Vic and Julia are very distant from each other so much so, they use Lilly as the go-between in all conversations. Lilly herself is more than a bit disturbing for an 11 year old. She asks things of David like, `how did it feel', etc etc.
David will make a friend at his new school too, Frank, a skinhead. I think he adds just the right thing to the story. David needed a nonjudgmental friend who's an outcast himself. At the end they will become the best of friends. However, I would have liked to learn more about Frank.
*****Spoilers below*****
As the conclusion to the story moves closer to the end David learns that Lilly is the killer of her older sister that everyone thought committed suicide because it's just not possible a 7 year old child (at the time) could do something like that. What annoyed me most about this book is the fact that it's never really said what David did to Emily. I think he beat her to death in a rage, but it's unanswered. Also, it annoys me that Lilly is such a demon and yet it feels as though you are supposed to feel sorry for her because she's a child. From the start I did not like Lilly; I did like David, just wish more was explained about the murder he committed. David's aunt Julia is a witch, she spends most the book being nasty or very cold to David. Also, I almost had to laugh out loud at how Julia and Vic were completely blind to the fact that their precious little girl was a monster and how they felt it was alright to use her against each other and relay messages. How childish adults can be. And how blind. I can also say at no point did I ever feel sorry for either David or Lilly, I just preferred David to Lilly.
All in all, this was a great book and I look forward to reading more from this author.

recommend 100 percent | | | | Good Main Character, Most Others Lousy Jun 13, 2007 |
The previous year, David got in the middle of a fight between his girlfriend, Emily, and her brother Greg. Greg had spent all of their combined college money on drugs, and Emily was furious. Greg was high and was hitting her, and David was worried that he would really hurt her. Intending to punch Greg, to get him to stop hitting Emily, David stepped into the middle of things. Emily got in front of him, though, and he ended up hitting her, so hard that he killed her.
At the trial Greg's drug use came out and David was acquitted of the crime, despite the fact that Greg tried to make him seem terribly abusive. The tabloid newspapers plastered David's name and picture all across their publications and he was famous, unable to get away from the attention. His parents decided to send him to a private high school in Cambridge, far away from his troubles in Baltimore, to repeat his senior year. He went to live with his aunt and uncle and cousin, who had been out of touch with his parents since their older daughter died four years before.
From the start, David's new family is full of problems. His eleven-year-old cousin Lily hates him and does everything she can to make him angry, especially after he counsels his aunt and uncle to start talking to each other instead of communicating through Lily. Things get more and more hostile around their house as they begin to believe the bad things Lily tells them about David.
I really liked the character of Frank. He was unique and interesting, sure of himself and not afraid to reach out to someone else. I liked seeing how David dealt with the awful thing he had done, even though he didn't do it on purpose.
I thought David's aunt and unlce were completely blind and unreasonable, which made them pretty lousy characters. I also thought that after all that she had done to him, David would not have been so eager to help Lily out. She was bratty and mean and dangerous, and I don't know if David could have ever found her lovable. | | | | The Killers Cousin May 21, 2007 |
| If you love the thrilles of mystery books you should read this book. Why you should read this book is. The main character david Bernard Yaffe is acussed of killing his girlfriend Emily. David after the court hearing moves in with his Uncle Vic and his family. Lily Daivds 11 year old cousin is very hostile towards him and doesnt want him there. David's older cousin Kathy killed herself after her boyfriend broke up with her. That is what everyone thought though. To figure out what actually happened you must read the book. I gave it this rating because I thought it was areally good mystery and was filled witha alot of drama that people deal with in real life. It does contain some adult language but not enough to make a major deal towards it. I still read it even though there was some bad words in it. I thought it was a very good book for teenagers to read. | | | | the killers cousin Apr 30, 2007 |
I liked this book because it kept me wondering. It was a very good mystery book that always kept me guessing. David moved to Massachusetts To finish his high school senior year. When he got an apartment of his own he tried to focus in finishing his year and leaving. While at his new place, he finds something that he must find the story to. I would recommend this book to something who loves good mystery books. This book is very fast going and it is not hard too read. | | | Write your own review about Killer's Cousin
