Product Description
Mark Vernon takes his inspiration from 42 of the funniest, wisest, and quirkiest quotations about the big questions in life, and uses these as starting points for his brilliant observations. In each chapter he explains what the greatest thinkers of all time have had to say on subjects such as eternal life, work, love and sex, and the nature of happiness; he draws his own conclusions, and will provoke you to think deeply yourself!

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Brilliant!  Mar 7, 2008
Mr. Vernon,

Your article in BBC online today (7 March 2008) was brilliant! In an eloquent and precise manner, you discussed not only Doug Adams, but also philosophy, mathematics and cosmology! My own interpretation:

What is "42"? It is alpha and the omega. It is something and it is nothing. It is death and rebirth. Numbers tell us "how much" but do not tell us "Why?" and "Wherefore". We are children standing on the precipice of the great unknown. Do we jump, or do we remain, safe upon the white cliffs? My family "jumped" to a place called "America" and my children shall "jump" into an undiscovered country called "space". This is our destiny, we, the explorers and questioners; we, the one animal species that asks "Why?".

Best wishes, Jeff Zekas, Susanville, California
