21st Century Parables contains some original nighttime stories that Linda made up to put her children to sleep. Now, years later, she wants to share them with other young people everywhere. This little book is about some inhuman characters with real human moral issues. Most of the stories are based upon biblical scriptures, such as the little nickel that wanted to be spent, and found out it was best to stay at home in a piggy bank. This is similar to Jesus' parable about the prodigal son who asked for his inheritance and left home to sample the world. He became broke, lost friends, and eventually returned home. Another story involves a little vegetable whose tears helped him to grow into an award-winning pumpkin. This story is based on Psalms 126, which says, "He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves." These two are just samples of what you will enjoy when reading the entire text. One can perceive these stories as humorous tales, but they can also glean from them some moral reasoning. When we wrote 21st Century Parables, we wanted to reach children in and around the third grade and up, but we soon realized that adults would enjoy reading it themselves, or reading it to younger audiences in shared reading sessions. These short stories can also be beneficial when children need to practice making inferences. As an extra bonus we have included in the Epilogue some humorous conversations from the Johnson grandchildren. Enjoy yourself!
