 | A Vision for the People: The Formatrix Criterion Mar 14, 2010 |
As the author of this small book it is my hope that it edifies or spiritually builds up those who read it, giving a vision of Christian salvation and personal spiritual order particularly to those Marian Catholics for whom it is specifically written. For it contains a "new" Mariology, that of "Our Lady, Formatrix of All Christians", that is, She who spiritually forms into Christ's likeness all who dispose themselves to God's Word, grace and Holy Spirit. For formatrix means "form" - to shape - and matrix - or womb - and Mary's Immaculate Heart is like an elevated womb wherein we are spiritually formed into the likeness of Her divine Son, Jesus Christ.
This assertion is not merely my own "inspired" belief from 1988 but Scriptural "evidence" is shown in the book to indicate that there is a Biblical basis for this prospective "dogma", plus there are the inspired writings of various saints. So that from the beginning of the text the reader is given the understanding that through obedience to Mary, Whose words are God's Word as well, where She says "Do whatever Jesus tells you" to the wine steward's assistants at the wedding feast at Cana (for She speaks to us all in this way), one become's like Her Son in the doing of His Word, which is encapsulated in the Formatrix Criterion, a group of seven commands or guidelines given by Christ.
Implicit to such criteria also are found seven resources or grace-opportunities whereby the Catholic reader learns that there is a great deal more to stewardship than merely giving money to the Church. For the grace-opportunities consist of the mind, the will, knowledge, the body, mammon (or money and all that in which it can be morally invested), liberty, and role, and the individual will find a vast amount of Christian material to study on any one of these subjects on the internet. (It is the author's hope to provide a followup, supplemental digest.)
Plus the author is following up this text with "On Becoming A Vision* (*for lack of which the people perish)", focusing on enabling the general Christian to become even more distinctive AS a vision of Christ for the benefit of others as one "majors" in works of faith, hope and charity in the comprehensive stewardship of the seven grace-opportunities. (One is saved by faith, of course, but faith without works is dead, and people who are perishing for lack of a sign of hope need to see Christian people living their faith in the performance of works of charity and faith.)
Thank you for reading this review! And May God bless you with His grace and likeness in the living of His Word and through the work of the Holy Spirit and His grace-full Spouse! Kevin R. Landry | | | Write your own review about A Vision for the People:: The Formatrix Criterion (Volume 1)
