Fast-paced quick read  Dec 18, 2009
Recently, I read James Patterson's Swimsuit. I could not put the book down.

I loved that the novel is written as a non-fiction account of contract serial killer Henri Benoit. Several times throughout the book, I had to remind myself that the book is fiction.

The story begins with mysterious abduction of swimsuit model Kim McDaniels. Ben Hawkins, a former cop turned crime reporter for the L.A. Times, is sent to Hawaii to cover the story.

Hawkins has no idea that while he has been covering the McDaniels' story, he has been with the killer the entire time.

An interesting twist of fate or did Benoit plan this the entire time?

Giving Hawkins a "deal he can't refuse," Benoit forces Hawkins to ghost write his biography.

Throughout their time together. Hawkins discovers the disturbing, numerous murders through the sick mind of psychopath. Benoit shares his story as a contract serial killer for "the peepers" and his desire for the unimaginable.

The chapters are very short; three to five pages in length. Because it is written in this manner, it has hard to put the book down. It is a very easy, entertaining, quick read (for 416 pages).

Not for the faint of heart, but for those who love thrillers.

One Persons Journey Through A World of Books Thoughts:  Dec 16, 2009
I am fairly new to audio books. Over this past year as I have had much time in the car as I went here and there across out great state of Minnesota, I discovered that I really enjoyed listening to the books.

With Swimsuit by James Patterson I was really surprised how quickly the story line swept me in. As I was listening to the early parts of the book, at the point that I was still deciding if this was a fit for me. While gruesome in parts, the thrill of the fast pace kept me on my toes waiting to see what would happen next. I was pleasantly shocked at the fast pace of this thriller.... moving with speed through the scenes that reflected in my mind. There were a couple moments where I caught my breath, had I heard that right?

The opening story line of this audio with the Super Model Kim and her parents is good, very good. Yet Jame's Patterson's Swimsuit is so much more. It is a close up look into a killers mind. What makes him tick and even as the book goes on all the pieces do not fall into place until the very end - as well written novels are capable of doing.

I ended up being very glad that I had this opportunity to listen to this book. A good murder mystery for me are few and far between. this one left me waiting for the next opportunity it take a drive so I could continue on with this captivating story. I became a Patterson fan over this audio.

My husband and I both read James Patterson. He read this one first ! He told me not to read it -This book was James Patterson's most goriest book yet. I didn't believe* how bad could it get?I waited a while then : I had to just read it!:. I was prepared-I just didn't read it at night.

Bummed  Dec 12, 2009
I received this as an audio book.

This is the only James Patterson novel I had difficulty with. The violent scenes were stunning and graphic. I was rather floored by them. I am not someone who is easily put off, but it really put me off. I was exceedingly glad about not playing it in the car with my son. It caused me to wonder if it was James Patterson or Maxine Paetro who brought this edge of graphic violence to the novel. I do understand that their are individuals out there who are despicable, and do horrid things. I understand that to a degree, it helps you see what an absolute monster the killer is. It was just a little more over the top than I had expected or felt was necessary. It worked with the book. It just didn't work for me.

The book seemed choppy in many parts. I felt like I was being ushered from one point to the next with nothing ever fully understood. I didn't get the opportunity to care about most of the characters in the book. I felt like I didn't even know them, and this is not usually the case with a James Patterson novel. I thought the beginning was good, but I kept wondering throughout the book just how Henri even got his hands on Kim in the first place. I wasn't too jazzed about the ending either. It just seemed like it was shoved in as the book was getting too long or something. There was no real resolution for me. I felt that there were things about the character Henri that we were just getting to understand and then it was over. I was kind actually more interested in what Henri's story was before he became this strange snuff-like murderer, but that was only grazed over.

I thought the reader, Christian Rummel did a nice job with his narration. He definitely had a good menacing quality to his voice when needed. His reading of the female characters kind of all sounded whiney, but I can't imagine that to be an easy thing to do. I am sure if I read a story, all my men would sound like deep voiced monsters. :)

I would love to recommend the book, but sadly I can't. I do recommend other James Patterson novels and especially the ones that he is the sole author of. I honestly have never been disappointed until now.
