Product Description
"If you believe it's time to put principles above parties, character above campaign promises, and Common Sense above all -- then I ask you to read this book...."

In any era, great Americans inspire us to reach our full potential. They know with conviction what they believe within themselves. They understand that all actions have consequences. And they find commonsense solutions to the nation's problems.

One such American, Thomas Paine, was an ordinary man who changed the course of history by penning Common Sense, the concise 1776 masterpiece in which, through extraordinarily straightforward and indisputable arguments, he encouraged his fellow citizens to take control of America's future -- and, ultimately, her freedom.

Nearly two and a half centuries later, those very freedoms once again hang in the balance. And now, Glenn Beck revisits Paine's powerful treatise with one purpose: to galvanize Americans to see past government's easy solutions, two-part monopoly, and illogical methods and take back our great country.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
3 stars for Beck's, 5 stars for Paine's  Jun 4, 2010
Having never read any of Mr. Beck's books before I did not know what I was in for. It was not what I expected it to be. I found the book to be largely nonpartisan, as Mr. Beck thinks the Democrats and the Republicans are obstacles to his Libertarian philosophies.
Beck is not a great writer, he is an average one, and I get the sense he is okay with that. This is not a text written on an inaccessible, philosophic level, and unlike some reviewers, I don't see that as a bad thing. It allows readers of different talents and abilities to participate in the debate he is engendering.
I follow politics closely, and Beck was still able to come up with some details and facts that I knew little or nothing about. The book is also well sourced, which is an asset. You can't say some of his arguments are wrong when he presents the proof.
The inclusion of Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" at the end of this text is this book's real strength. If I had ever read all of it before, I don't remember, and the ideas expressed by that great American over two centuries ago have some profound things to say to us yet. The prescience of "Common Sense" today is truly astounding. There are parts of it that could have been accurately written about this country yesterday. Regardless of your political stripes, you should be able to see the value and wisdom in Mr. Paine's "little pamphlet". If you don't, you are too far gone.

Glenn Beck's Common Sense  Jun 3, 2010
Should be required reading for all High School Government classes. Lets you into the how & why our founders wanted our country to be governed. The 9/12 principles should be in everyones to do list.

Incredible  May 23, 2010
It is so incredible that Americans are lacking common sense. We are so busy with out material lives that we have forgotten to see the big picture. Glenn is often criticized and misinterpreted. People need to read the book, watch his show and listen to his radio show in order to see that he is not on any political side. He is on the American side. He strongly believes in our founders and great principals and morals. They are all in relation to humanity, the ten commandments and the constitution. Sometimes I feel like he is a profit and is being treated like they used to be back then, ridiculed because people would rather bury their heads in the sand than listen to the ugly truth.

The hypocrisy of Glenn Beck  May 20, 2010
When I bought the book, I hoped to buy a book that would remind me of the great Thomas Paine who wrote a book that changed America. Instead I was greeted by the ramblings and vents of Glenn Beck. I did not know anything about him before reading the book, but after doing just a bit of reading it is easy to see that this is a man who should not be listened to.

Although I agree with many of his opinions (and disagree with many others). The way he writes about his opinions are not revolutionary in any way and if you have any outside knowledge do not make ''common sense''. Although he writes in a way such that anyone with a middle school education could read the book. I fail to see how socialism and democracy are the same, one is economy and the other is politics. A lot of his statements are made without backing up of facts, either that or they are backed up by facts but not the whole picture. It will help perpetuate the ignorance in this country that Glenn Beck speaks of.

It is no wonder that his controversial statements have made him into a famous television persona. But anyone with an education in economics or politics would know that his beliefs on government control and politics have no bearing. He accuses congress of being hypocrites, yet it is him who is hypocritical by demeaning the name of such a historical book in order for his own personal profit.

An Inspiring, Enlightening MUST-READ for all who love America!  May 17, 2010
I read this book the day it came out, IIRC, and it was one of the best books I've ever read. It's short, easy-to-read (my eight year old son reads it just fine), and even includes Thomas Paine's original version. It's a definite must-read, and it helps awaken Americans who aren't yet awake to what we face. The best time to read this would have been the week it debuted, but since it's already mid-2010, if you haven't already read this, PLEASE DO SO NOW!

Personally, I have purchased & given out over a dozen copies, and I encourage you to do the same!

As for the negative reviews, especially the "most-helpful critical review," they're a bunch of crap. Ignore them, and get this book, then read it, and pass it on. The negative reviewers simply don't want you to awaken to the truth. The tax code has expanded massively, Congress continues to pass laws that apply to all Americans except for Congress, the weasels in Washington think they know what's best, and our bloated, leviathan government is NOT the answers to our problems, the federal government usually IS the problem!

And thankfully, Glenn Beck doesn't get partisan; he doesn't single out just the Democrats; in fact, if anything, he's relatively more hard on the Republican Party, on all parties, than he is on the Democrats. Glenn makes the case against out-of-control spending currently going on in Washington, where $Trillions more than are being taken in with taxes, each year. $Trillions are added to our national debt each year now, and Glenn has been railing on this since Clinton, and he was taking Bush to the woodshed several years ago, so he is perfectly consistent in this book. Glenn does, in this book, focus a bit on BOTH political parties, including George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

Thankfully, Glenn Beck DOES get the third party issue right; he does advocate, however briefly, against a third party, and this book infuses common sense into Americans who are awakening to a sense of our awful situation. Every American should read this book, including the second half, which consists of the original edition authored by Thomas Paine

Again, this book is a must buy/must read, as it tells the truth that many of us have known for years, exposing some of what is going on in Washington, D.C. Ever since so-called 'progressives' have taken control of both parties in the early 20th Century, for the most part (yes, in many respects, even the Republican Party, with the exception of Calvin Coolidge & Ronald Reagan, has been under the influence, and at other times, control, as the Democrat party is today, of 'progressives.'), BOTH parties have been compromised.

This book tells the truth, and it should be in every classroom in America.
