Counting in English Chinese New Year book  Nov 24, 2009
As far as Chinese New Year books go this is Ok, but there are better books out there. This is also 1 to 10 that is strictly "English", no mention of Chinese numbers, characters of Pinyan. This would be a good book for preschool children for the big photos and to count from 1 - 10.

This is how the book breaks down. The explainations are good, except for the Moon cakes. I do like seeing the tray of happiness, that is not often shown in other books. If there is a saving grace for this book it's the photos. Each number has 1 page of information and 1 page photo.

2 pg on Read about Chinese New Year

1 - Parade - shows photo of people holding a dragon for the dragon dance.

2 - Oranges

3 - Moon Cakes - Most people associate Moon Cakes with the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival and not at Chinese New Year. I think something else could have been used here.

4 - Lion Dance

5 - Red Envelopes or Lai See

6 - Narcissus flower

7 - Lanterns

8 - Tray of Togetherness

9 - Fireworks

10 - Family gathered together on Chinese New Year's feast.
