Item Description... Overview For every time you've tried too hard, fell too far, or struggled too much, the refreshing cups in this book-or reminders of God's infinite grace and mercy-will renew you like cool, clear water after a long, dry walk on a dusty, pitted, uphill road. "I've been a believing Christian since childhood," author C. David Baker explains, "but it's my personal failures that have led me to the deep well of Grace." David poured his dashed hopes, broken dreams, haunting doubts, and paralyzing fear down that well and found all that's collected here, all he, like you, needs for living with peace, joy, and purpose: cool cups of relief, comfort, revival, and sustenance. Because Water Is "Life. "And" 101 Cups of Water "Will Quench Your Thirst.

Day 1: A Cup of Grace
I can't live the Christian life.
Don't tell anyone, but I've tried and I've tried and I can't. I haven't loved God with all my heart, soul, and mind, and I certainly haven't loved my neighbors as myself. It's that simple.
The Big Lie that's weighed so heavily on me is that I can make my Christian life “work.” It's a lie that has stood in the way of my enjoying true communion with God, a lie that's kept me from more fully appreciating the beauty of the creation around me and the community of others.
So, yes, I admit that I can't make my Christian life work. Praise be to God, who has freed me from the trying. He's shown me that only Christ can live the Christian life, and he lives that life through me more fully as I get that trying-harder Self out of his way (Galatians 3).
So what do I do? I ask the Holy Spirit to show me my weakness, my sin, my need. I bring it all to the cross. And when the good news of God's love pours over me, it is then I realize, with my heart filled with gratitude, that Christ lives through me.
No, I can't live the Christian life on my own–and he loves me anyway.

Baker opens his heart and lets us in on a secret: he's a failure at living the Christian life... but he shows us that failures look to Jesus and in our weakness we become strong in his strength.
So many Christian books intending to inspire just feed the empty promise of self-effort but Baker challenges us to give up and dare to believe in God's grace through Jesus Christ based on what he objectively accomplished on our behalf 2000 years ago on the cross! Each of the 101 cups is a sip of applied truth of a believer's sonship.
We should hand these out like carrot sticks to our friends hung up on self-absorbed law keeping (especially the worst legalists I know: me, myself and I)... | | | | Perfect book to lift your spirits and soothe your soul Jan 25, 2008 |
| 101 Cups of Water: Relief and Refreshment for the Tired, Thirsty Soul by C.D. Baker is an absolutely charming book. It's a small hardcover filled with simple black and white photos that compliment essays by Baker about faith and the human spirit. Each essay fills only one page, and with titles like A Cup of Healing and A Cup of Strength, it's easy to find one to suit the needs of your spirit whatever the circumstance. The essays are written in first person, so it's easy to relate and learn along with the writer. I really enjoyed reading a few essays each night. I'd flip through the book looking for a title or picture that caught my eye, and then the essay would capture my heart. This book would make a terrific gift for yourself or someone else. | | | | Refreshing Jan 24, 2008 |
I'm using this book as a devotional. Each topic or reflection has its own page accompanied with a beautiful black and white photo. Just staring at the photos for awhile has a calming, centering effect.
Reading 101 Cups of Water is a great way to begin and direct my quiet devotional time in the mornings.
