Item Description...
The definitive guide from the renowned fly-fishing master
A handsome new illustrated edition of the classic by Art Flick, the man who gave American fly fishers their first useable, portable text for “matching the hatch” at streamside. Still a classic for anglers old and new, the Streamside Guide is the highly readable handbook to the major mayfly species of the eastern seaboard, providing step-by-step instructions for identifying these insects and selecting the proper flies. Flick's masterful text is a key to his beloved Catskills rivers, the epicenter of American fly fishing. With a new foreword, this classic work has new photos throughout, in black and white with a full-color insert.

About this Author/Artist Art Flick, 19TK-19TK, has long been nationally recognized as a superb fly fisherman and entomologist, a meticulous and innovative fly-tyer, and a devoted conservationalist. Lauded by other great fly-fishing authors of the late 20th century, including Vincent Mariano, Ernest Schwiebert, and Nick Lyons, Flick's book was a hit among anglers when it first appeared in 1947, and provided a model for fly-fishing entomology texts for years to come. Flick put the tools for successful Catskills fly fishing in the hands of thousands of anglers.

 | Art Flick's New Streamside Guide to Naturals and Their Imitations Mar 26, 2008 |
This book is probably the best book ever written in regards to streamside insects hatchs and life cycles. Art goes into great detail listing the type of insect their life style and life cycle. It goes so far as to estimate the time of day a hatch will occur. Excellent book for the trout angler. It does give some insight as to fly patterns but mostly it explains the insects, how trout feed on the and why. Highly recommended, and i can see alot of field time and work went into this book. It wasn't written by someone that doesn't spend alot of time on the stream. The size lends it to a take along book. The original published book in a leather slip cover list for $150.00 in the Orvis catalog. Its a great buy. | | | Write your own review about Art Flick's New Streamside Guide to Naturals and Their Imitations (Nick Lyons Books)
