| This book, Far From Home, is an excellent resource for people interested in trauma associated with homelessness. It focuses on homeless men and women over 18 years of age in the Sydney area, but findings are most likely applicable to the large population of homeless adults in other countries such as the US, UK and France. There are two major studies reported in the book - the first study details the experience of trauma and prevalence of PTSD in homeless adults, and interestingly reports that trauma frequently precedes homelessness. The second study looks more closely at the nature of the post-traumatic cognitions and early maladaptive schemas amongst these homeless adults. The findings are interesting, unprecedented and invaluable to anyone working within this area, or anyone with an interest in the experiences and thought processes of homeless men and women.
